Colour is the fastest signal in decorating, and it maps cleanly onto the six styles this site scores for. Three of the twelve quiz questions are about colour — which palette feels like home, which metal finish feels right, and which mood you are drawn to. Here is what each style's palette says.

Modern: one accent against a lot of quiet

Cloud white, graphite, warm steel, and one terracotta ember. The palette is small and disciplined, and the accent is the point. If you are drawn to calm and neutral with one bold accent, that is modern.

Boho: warm and sun-baked

Sunbaked clay, ochre sand, dried sage, ivory rattan. The palette is warm and layered, drawn from earth and fibre. If you are drawn to warm terracotta, sand and layered earth tones, that is boho.

Industrial: moody and dark

Charcoal iron, raw concrete, rust patina, blackened brass. The palette is dark and material, built to take a hit. If you are drawn to charcoal, raw metal and deep rust, that is industrial.

Scandinavian: light and airy

Soft birch, pale fog, slate blue, muted charcoal. The palette is pale and cool, built around daylight. If you are drawn to soft white, pale blue-grey and birch, that is scandinavian.

Traditional: rich and saturated

Deep mahogany, antique gold, cream damask, hunter green. The palette is rich and formal, drawn from established materials. If you are drawn to deep mahogany, hunter green and antique gold, that is traditional.

Eclectic: bold and contrasting

Layered terracotta, cobalt spark, golden ochre, ink charcoal. The palette mixes jewel tones and warm neutrals together. If you are drawn to bold, contrasting, a little unexpected, that is eclectic.
